The Birth of a Home

Building a Home at Mesquite Hills with Lawler Construction

Building a home is indeed a labor of love. And here at Mesquite Hills, that effort is one of uncompromising attention to detail and quality. Our builder, Lawler Construction is one of, if not THE finest custom home builders in Arizona and we are proud to showcase their beautiful new homes.

The supports for the foundation are dug and secured with steel posts, & once the foundation gets poured, it is given time to set. Then the metal rebar that you saw inside the concrete in our video is tightened from both Sides, to compress the foundation, making it super sturdy!

From day one we begin with an extra thick monolithic slab, post tension foundation that employs some of the same strength building techniques as bridges across the USA do, making them the beginning to a reliable and well-built home.

The supports for the foundation are dug and secured with steel posts, & once the foundation gets poured, it is given time to set. Then the metal rebar that you saw inside the concrete in our video is tightened from both Sides, to compress the foundation, making it super sturdy!

Once the foundation is set and tensioned, our framing crew gets to work, snapping lines to mark exterior and interior walls. Snapping out custom homes is a precision operation and takes between a day and two days for a very skilled team of experienced craftsmen to complete. It lays the architectural plans out on the foundation to guide the framers when they are assembling the interior and exterior walls.

The next day, framing begins, and the home starts to take shape. Framers carefully cut top and bottom plates for the walls and headers for the doors and windows. Then the studs are nailed between these pieces, and the walls are raised and then supported with 2x4's until the top plates can be fastened in place, fitting the walls together in jigsaw fashion and bolted to the foundation.

When the walls are framed and raised, it is time to fly the rafters! A semi-truck delivers the roof joists, and then the framers put them into the order that they are to be flown and installed from back to front.

When the crane shows up, it is time for business! Another team of framers joins the first team & they spring into action, "flying" the rafters over the neighboring homes and placing them precisely atop the newly constructed walls with the skill and deftness of cats. All the while, keeping a watchful eye on safety.

The home is then finished with sheeting, and is now ready to have electric run, be plumbed, drywalled and have the exterior work done, like roofing, siding, and windows! Curtains, landscaping and a final inspection and this home is ready for its homeowner!
